I came across Gion-Pieder Pfister upon his arrival to Istanbul in autumn 1995 to assume his new assignment as the General Manager of Swissair Turkey. As my company then “Gate Gourmet” was a subsidiary of the S-Air Group of companies, and at the same time Swissair’s supplier of in-flight catering in Turkey, Gion was not only my customer and my colleague, but shortly after became my very good and sincere family friend.
I knew Gion as a true aviation industry professional who employs both his vast professional experience, and strong personal skills in the conduct of his business, thus making him a role model in executive management and good leadership throughout his business career.

I got to know and appreciate Gion-Pieder Pfister after he was appointed as the CEO
for the new Swissport Maroc start-up organization subsequent to the assignment of
ground handling licenses to Swissport International at several airports in Morocco. We
embarked into regular follow-up meetings during the build-up, transition and initial
operational phase.
From our collaboration I remember his determination to reach our common goals and
our excellent co-operation in a complex environment which was new to him. The startup
phase required a good portion of strong leadership, diplomacy and stake-holder
management including Unions negotiations, all at the same time, which he
achieved through his distinct social skills.
The results spoke for themselves! Our joint airline clients noticed an almost instant and marked improvement in the provision of ground handling services compared to the situation before.
